Tiger Woods: does the legend’s career end with a car crash?

American golfer Tiger Woods who boasts an incredible long career, started at the age of 21 when (1997) he won the first of 15 career major titles, is not given for finished. With the statement released by the hospital according to which he is “alive and responsive” and recovering from surgical operation, many positive comments have arrived from the top leaders of the world, starting from former President Barack Obama to a littany of sports stars sharing their prayers and well-wishes to Woods. On Tuesday evening, soon after the accident, Obama wrote on Twitter, “Sending my prayers to TigerWoods and his family tonight—here’s to a speedy recovery for the GOAT of golf. If we’ve learned anything over the years, it’s to never count Tiger out”. Former President Donald Trump wished his friend and occasional golf partner Tiger Woods a speedy recovery Tuesday night, noting how Woods has been able to overcome serious health problems in the past. “He’s going to be back,” Trump said. “I have no doubt about it, he’s going to be back.”

Tiger Woods’s badly damaged car after the golfer’s crash on Tuesday

Born on December 30, 1975, Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer in the world for nearly two decades, was seriously injured in a single-car crash early Tuesday in the Los Angeles area. He has been hospitalized with what have been described as serious but not life-threatening injuries. Upon their arrival, policemen said Tiger Woods was ‘lucky to be alive’ after such an violent impact. According to the rescue team, the impact was cushioned by the interior of the car which somehow protected it. When he was found inside his car, he remained “calm and lucid, despite being trapped inside the vehicle”. Woods was removed from the crash by firefighters, and his vehicle suffered “major damage”. Woods was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

After the operation, the golfer was “awake and responsive”, according to a statement by the TGR foundation on Tuesday night. It is not the first time that the golfer has been involved in a serious car accident, in 2009 he crashed with his SUV in Florida. In 2017, he was arrested after police found him unconscious at the wheel of his car. Tiger said he had taken prescription medications prior to the accident and hadn’t realized the effect they would have on him. The causes of the accident occurred at 7.12 in the morning are not yet clear. Last month the champion had undergone micro-discectomy surgery to remove a pressurized disc fragment that was pinching a nerve and doctors expected him to fully recover. Now his future is no longer so given for granted. Woods is now recovering from major surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where his right leg has been stabilised by inserting a rod into the tibia. Screws and pins were also used to stabilise the bones in the foot and ankle.

He is an athlete who has inspired generations and generations, his legacy extends over the golf course for the ability hed has had to draw the eyes of the world and not only golf enthusiasts.
